Super battery company Donut Lab published the first results of VTT's research – experts: Nothing new or surprising

Donut Lab's recent battery research results, verified by VTT, demonstrate rapid charging capabilities, but lack support for the company's other claims.

Donut Lab, a Finnish technology company, recently released the first independent test results regarding its solid-state battery, which the company claims charges in five minutes and lasts the entire lifespan of a vehicle. The measurements conducted by VTT, a technology research center, primarily focused on the charging speed of the battery cell. While the results confirm that the battery can indeed charge quickly, achieving 80% charge in just 4.5 minutes, and near full charge in just over seven minutes at an extreme charge rate, many of the company's other claims remain unsubstantiated.

Despite the successful results concerning rapid charging, experts in battery technology have expressed that the findings do not present any groundbreaking advancements or surprises. Juho Heiska, a research and development manager at Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences, noted that the information released is quite limited and that while the rapid charging performance is impressive, it is not sufficient on its own to validate the broader claims made by Donut Lab regarding the durability and overall performance of their technology.

With the battery industry highly competitive and driven by constant innovations, the release of such findings raises questions about the reliability of emerging technologies. Experts suggest that without more comprehensive testing and transparency regarding the battery’s performance over longer durations and various conditions, investors and consumers may remain skeptical about the promises made by companies like Donut Lab, despite initial indications of progress in charging speeds.
