Shotgun and ammunition seized on undocumented barge in Óbidos
A shotgun and six rounds of ammunition were seized from an undocumented barge on the Amazon River near Óbidos, Brazil.
On the morning of Friday, September 6, the Public Security River Group (GFlu) from the Integrated River Base Candiru confiscated a shotgun and six rounds of ammunition on a barge in the Amazon River close to the municipality of Óbidos, located in western Pará. This operation is part of broader government efforts in Pará to combat the trafficking and illegal possession of firearms, which in 2025 alone has led to the confiscation of over 2,300 illegal weapons. During the inspection, security agents found that the barge lacked the minimum required documentation for navigation and that its navigation lights were not operational. Due to these irregularities, the Port Captaincy was notified by the River Group to take the necessary administrative actions. The Integrated River Bases Antonio Lemos and Candiru, maintained by the government of Pará through the Secretariat of Public Security, are actively involved in ensuring safety and compliance in river navigation across the region. This incident highlights ongoing challenges related to illegal arms trafficking and the need for rigorous enforcement of maritime laws in Brazil's Amazon region. The government is stepping up its initiatives to curb illegal activities that threaten public safety and promote the lawful use of firearms while fostering a secure environment for navigation along the vital waterways of the region.
