In memory of the late filmmaker and screenwriter Jānis Streičs, the National Cinema Centre has made 11 of his classic films available for free viewing on 'Filmas.lv' for two weeks starting March 7.
In honor of the recently deceased Latvian filmmaker and screenwriter Jānis Streičs, the National Cinema Centre (NKC) has announced that a selection of 11 of his classic feature films will be freely accessible on the online platform 'Filmas.lv' for a period of two weeks beginning Saturday, March 7. This collection is a tribute to Streičs's significant contributions to Latvian cinema and serves as a reminder of his influential legacy.
The curated selection includes some of Streičs's most iconic works, such as "Limuzīns Jāņu nakts krāsā" (1981) and "Mans draugs-nenopietns cilvēks" (1975), showcasing the director's unique storytelling and stylistic prowess from the 1970s and 80s. Additionally, the program features films reflecting Latvia's cultural heritage, like "Cilvēka bērns" (1991)—which is a homage to the Latgale region—and "Likteņdzirnas" (1997), regarded as one of the most popular films of the post-independence era.
The collection also highlights various periods in Streičs's career, including two miniseries from the 1970s and other significant works that portray the evolving nuances of Latvian society through the lens of cinema.
