He received numerous accolades throughout his career, including the prestigious Order of the Three Stars and the title of Honorary Member of the Latvian Academy of Sciences. Streičs was also a significant leader within the Latvian Cinematographers' Union and the Riga Latvian Society, making substantial contributions to the development of the cinematic landscape in Latvia. His artistic legacy includes over 20 feature films, many of which he also penned. These films have been recognized as classics within Latvian cinema culture, with notable titles such as 'Mans draugs – nenopietns cilvēks' (1975), 'Cilvēka bērns' (1991), 'Likteņdzirnas' (1997), and 'Rūdolfa mantojums' (2010). Notably, his film 'Limuzīns Jāņu nakts krāsā' (1981) holds a revered place in the Latvian cultural canon, showcasing his significant impact on the national film scene. Born in Preiļi, Streičs pursued his passion for the arts from a young age, initially studying at Gailīši Primary School and later at Rēzekne Teacher's School.
