A greenhouse of 250 square meters has burned down in the Mežotne parish

A 250 square meter greenhouse in the Mežotne parish of Bauska district caught fire on Friday and was extinguished within two hours.

On Friday at 18:16, a 250 square meter greenhouse in the Mežotne parish, part of Bauska district, caught fire, prompting an immediate response from the State Fire and Rescue Service of Latvia (VUGD). Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze by 20:29. Fortunately, during the same night, there were no reported incidents where people were rescued, injured, or killed in fire-related emergencies, which indicates effective management of the situation.

In addition to the greenhouse fire, the VUGD received a total of 38 emergency calls in the past 24 hours. Among these, five involved fires needing extinguishing, while 21 were related to rescue operations. The remaining 12 calls were identified as false alarms, highlighting the ongoing challenges first responders face in distinguishing between genuine emergencies and false reports.

The incident underscores the importance of fire safety and preparedness in agricultural settings, particularly in areas where greenhouses are prevalent. The quick response from emergency services prevented a potentially more disastrous situation and reflects their commitment to public safety in local communities within Latvia.
