Body of teenager who disappeared in the Tocantins River is found in Itupiranga, in southeastern Pará

The body of 15-year-old Átilla Izabelly was discovered in Itupiranga, southeastern Pará, after drowning in the Tocantins River during a jet ski accident.

The tragic discovery of 15-year-old Átilla Izabelly's body came after a significant search operation following her disappearance in the Tocantins River near Marabá, Brazil. The teenager, who was involved in a jet ski accident, was reported missing after falling into the water on the night of Tuesday (3). Her body was eventually recovered in Vila Tauari, approximately 60 kilometers from the accident location, highlighting the dangers associated with water sports, especially among minors.

Rescue teams, aided by a helicopter from the Public Security Air Group of Pará (Graesp), conducted extensive searches in the region where the jet ski sank. Reports indicate that there were three individuals on board the jet ski during the incident, with the driver, Diego Veras Cruz, lacking a valid license and reportedly showing signs of intoxication. While this incident tragically claimed the life of young Átilla, another minor on the jet ski was rescued by local residents and taken to the hospital, emphasizing the need for increased safety measures and regulations in recreational water activities.

The case is now under the scrutiny of the Civil Police, pointing to potential legal consequences for the driver due to the circumstances surrounding the accident. This incident raises broader questions about youth safety in water sports and the responsibility of operators to ensure proper licensing and sober operation of vehicles in such environments, particularly when minors are involved.
