What is the churn rate, the reason for the cancellation of 2 million streaming accounts in Mexico?

The churn rate has resulted in the cancellation of 2 million streaming accounts in Mexico due to heightened competition among platforms.

The churn rate in Mexico has reached an alarming level, leading to the cancellation of around 2 million streaming accounts. Major platforms such as Vix, Premium, Disney+, and Amazon Prime Video have witnessed significant subscriber losses, with a 14 percent cancellation rate among the total 14.3 million accesses to video platforms over the last six months. This reflects a changing landscape in the streaming industry, suggesting a move into a maturity phase characterized by higher user turnover.

According to Radamés Camargo, director of Analysis at The CIU consulting firm, ViX Premium accounted for a substantial portion of the cancellations at 28.6 percent, followed by Disney+ with 21.4 percent and Amazon Prime Video at 17.9 percent. Other platforms like Apple TV and Netflix saw lower cancellation rates of 14.3 percent and 10.7 percent, respectively. These statistics indicate that consumers are becoming increasingly selective and are exploring other alternatives as competition heats up.

This trend underscores the importance for streaming services to innovate and offer compelling content to retain subscribers. With streaming as a prevalent form of entertainment, the pressure on providers to maintain service quality and unique offerings is greater than ever. As the industry progresses, platforms that fail to adapt may continue to see a rising churn rate.
