Kiosks on Avenida Roberto Freire are demolished for exceeding permitted height
Five kiosks have started to be demolished on Avenida Engenheiro Roberto Freire in Ponta Negra, Natal, for violating the city's new Master Plan regarding allowed building heights.
In Natal, Brazil, five kiosks located on Avenida Engenheiro Roberto Freire in Ponta Negra are being demolished due to non-compliance with the city's updated Master Plan, which stipulates the maximum height for establishments in the area. This plan was approved in 2022 and aims to preserve the scenic views along the beachfront by limiting the height of buildings between the coastal road and the Rota do Sol roundabout, ensuring that they do not exceed the height of the Ponta Negra boardwalk.
The demolition process began on Thursday, March 5, with at least two kiosks being dismantled, and the local government has announced that three more kiosks are scheduled for demolition. The city’s evaluation of the area identified nine blocks affected by these regulations, emphasizing the importance of adhering to local building codes designed to maintain the aesthetic and environmental integrity of the coastal zone.
According to the Municipal Secretary of Environment and Urban Planning (Semurb), the five kiosks in question were found to exceed the maximum height allowed under the Master Plan. This initiative not only underscores the city's commitment to urban planning standards but also reflects an ongoing effort to safeguard the natural beauty of popular tourist areas, ensuring that the skyline remains harmonious with the coastal landscape.
