MPF signs agreement to demolish part of building illegally constructed in a resting area in João Pessoa

The Federal Public Prosecutor's Office in Brazil has reached an agreement for the partial demolition of a building that was illegally constructed in a protected environmental area in João Pessoa.

The Federal Public Prosecutor's Office (MPF) has formalized an Adjustment of Conduct Agreement (TAC) with a condominium in Jardim Oceania, João Pessoa, aimed at addressing the environmental and property damages caused by the illegal occupation of maritime and resting land. This agreement involves the partial demolition of a four-story building that was constructed beyond the legal limits of its lot and encroaching on protected areas.

As part of the agreement, the condominium is required to demolish all structures built outside the regular boundaries of the lot and will also need to ensure that all debris is removed. Additionally, cleaning of the site must be conducted to allow for the natural regrowth of resting vegetation. These actions must be carried out by a specialized company and must follow the proper regulations, including securing a permit from the João Pessoa municipality before proceeding.

The timeline established in the agreement stipulates that all interventions are to be completed within 120 days from the judicial approval of the TAC. This action underscores the Brazilian government's effort to enforce environmental protection laws, particularly in areas at risk from urban development, stressing the importance of maintaining ecological integrity in coastal regions.
