Three cities in MA begin emergency declaration process and 10 municipalities are monitored due to heavy rains
Three cities in Maranhão, Brazil, are initiating emergency declarations, while ten others are under monitoring by the state Civil Defense due to excessive rainfall.
Three cities in the state of Maranhão, Brazil, namely Grajaú, Lagoa do Mato, and Poção de Pedras, have started the process of declaring a state of emergency due to heavy rains that have been reported since early March. The situation has prompted the local Civil Defense to monitor an additional ten municipalities that are experiencing similar weather conditions. Colonel Célio Roberto from the Maranhão Military Fire Brigade (CBMMA) confirmed these developments and emphasized the support being offered to municipalities for documenting damages caused by the rains.
The CBMMA and Civil Defense teams are actively assisting municipal authorities in completing the necessary documentation for the emergency declaration. Their goal is to ensure that local governments correctly navigate the process to request formal recognition of the emergency situation. This step is crucial for obtaining resources and assistance needed to manage the impacts of the severe weather.
Moreover, the Civil Defense is urging residents to remain vigilant and heed safety warnings. The CBMMA commander mentioned that three SMS alerts have already been sent out to registered mobile numbers through the risk information system, which aims to keep the population informed of potential dangers and encourage proactive measures in response to the hazardous conditions.
