Alexela has opened a newly modernized LPG terminal in Riga, enhancing energy security in the Baltic and Eastern European regions.

Today, an updated LPG terminal infrastructure was inaugurated by SIA Latvijas Propāna Gāze at the port of Riga, which is aimed at strengthening the liquefied gas supply chain for the Baltic and Eastern European markets, including Poland and Ukraine. This modernization is part of a broader investment strategy to improve energy security in these regions. The project received significant financial backing, with around ten million euros invested by stakeholders including the Estonian B2G Grupp and international commodity company Trafigura.

The newly updated terminal has the capacity to accommodate large transatlantic LPG tankers, which is a crucial step towards enhancing trade in liquefied petroleum gas in the area. Among the noteworthy events at the opening was the presence of the LPG tanker CERRO ALTO EXPLORER, which is capable of carrying 20,000 tons of liquefied propane from the United States. This reflects a shift in sourcing strategies for the region as it seeks to diversify its energy supplies away from more traditional routes.

Further development plans by the company aim to boost storage capacities at the terminal, indicating long-term investment and expansion efforts in the region. The modernization not only marks a significant milestone for local energy infrastructure but also highlights the ongoing efforts to secure energy independence in the face of geopolitical tensions, making it a relevant development for Baltic and Eastern European nations.
