The Ministry of Agriculture has initiated an investigation into the possible misconduct of the VMVT director
An investigation has been launched into the director of VMVT by the Ministry of Agriculture related to her actions during a staffing change process.
The Ministry of Agriculture of Lithuania has announced that it has begun an investigation into the possible misconduct of the director of the State Food and Veterinary Service (VMVT). The inquiry is tied to the director's actions, although specific details have not been disclosed to maintain objectivity in the investigation. The Ministry stated that this investigation is crucial for ensuring transparency and accountability regarding leadership practices within the agency.
The director of VMVT, A. Mikalauskienė, recently acknowledged that she was informed about the investigation at the beginning of February. This investigation stems from a complaint filed by a former employee who was dismissed during a restructuring process in 2024. The restructuring reportedly affected approximately 600 employees as part of a larger reform initiated by the Ministry to optimize the service's efficiency and performance. Mikalauskienė noted that a satisfactory resolution was reached with most employees involved, except for one.
Mikalauskienė affirmed that the employee who filed the complaint was offered equivalent employment positions but declined the offer, leading to their dismissal. The ongoing investigation highlights the challenges faced by public institutions in managing staffing changes, employee rights, and the potential consequences of leadership decisions. It reflects a broader adherence to accountability within governmental agencies, especially in the wake of significant organizational reforms.
