R. Žemaitaitis commented on the VMVT audit findings
R. Žemaitaitis expressed concern over the Veterinary Service's atmosphere and management following a recent audit that highlighted issues.
R. Žemaitaitis, a leader of the 'Ausers' party, addressed concerns regarding the Veterinary Service (VMVT) in a statement to Žinių radijas. He noted a significant number of complaints from the business sector which lead him to question the overall functioning of the service. The skepticism was fueled by his observations of certain individuals within the agency and suggests that there may be underlying problems that need addressing.
The recent audit results have raised alarms about the working environment under the current director of VMVT, hinting at potential forthcoming actions in response to these findings. Žemaitaitis emphasized the gravity of the situation as it reflects on the efficiency and public trust in the veterinary service, which plays a crucial role in ensuring animal health and safety standards in Lithuania.
At the end of January, the Ministry of Agriculture received government approval to conduct a comprehensive review of the VMVT’s internal control system, IT management, financial resources, and public procurement processes. This intention to audit is part of a broader effort to improve accountability and transparency within public agencies, raising hopes for necessary reforms in the Veterinary Service.
