Flagging Today Across Finland
On March 6th, Finland honors fallen police officers by flying flags at half-mast as part of an international campaign by Interpol.
On Friday, March 6th, Finland will honor police officers who have fallen in the line of duty by flying flags at half-mast across the country. This observance marks Finland's participation in the International Day of Remembrance for Fallen Officers, organized annually by Interpol on March 7th. Due to the commemoration falling on a Saturday this year, Finnish police will hold their remembrance activities on the preceding Friday to ensure proper acknowledgment.
In addition to flagging, police units throughout Finland will observe the day with moments of silence, reflecting on the sacrifices made by their colleagues. As part of Interpol's campaign, this year's remembrance period includes a Global Blue Chain event, which will see landmarks and buildings around the world illuminated in blue to honor those who have lost their lives in police service. In Finland, the Police College in Tampere will illuminate its main building in blue throughout the weekend.
Furthermore, to educate the public about the fallen officers, a virtual exhibition titled 'In Memoriam' has been launched at the Police Museum, presenting stories about Finnish police officers who have died while serving. This initiative aims to raise awareness of the dangers faced by police and to pay tribute to their dedication and sacrifices in maintaining public safety.
