New accommodation facilities are being renovated in Vierumäki for 17 million - the historical main building of the sports institute changes ownership
The historical Kaskela main building in Vierumäki has been sold and is set to undergo renovation for over 17 million euros to provide accommodation at the college and hotel level.
The Kaskela main building, a historical site at the Finnish Sports Institute in Vierumäki, has been sold to Keele Oy. The new owner plans to renovate the building at an estimated cost exceeding 17 million euros, aiming to convert it into a facility that will offer both college and hotel-level accommodations. Jukka Tiikkaja, the CEO of Vierumäki corporations, indicated that while the sale price was around 277,000 euros, the significant aspect is that someone is ready to take on the responsibility of restoring the building, which will benefit the operations of the Finnish Sports Institute and Vierumäki corporations.
The new renovation project is seen as a crucial step for the future, particularly as this year marks the 100th anniversary of the Sports Institute. Although parts of the building, such as its tower, have not been in use for years, the upcoming changes are expected to breathe new life into the premises. Tiikkaja expressed that although such a major business investment might be hard to justify, it is an opportunity that should be appreciated for the sake of Vierumäki and the sports institute’s legacy.
Keele Oy, which also owns Vierumäki corporations, is expected to become the primary real estate developer in the area following this acquisition. Such initiatives are likely to contribute positively to the local economy and enhance the sports institute's facilities, fostering an environment conducive to sports education and tourism in the region.
