OLTH S.A.: Repeated security check at the Port of Thessaloniki
A repeated security check was conducted at the Port of Thessaloniki by the European Commission's DG MOVE from February 25 to 27, 2026, following a previous inspection in February 2025.
From February 25 to 27, 2026, a thorough security check was carried out at the Port of Thessaloniki by the General Directorate of Mobility and Transport of the European Commission (DG MOVE). This inspection was a continuation of a previous evaluation conducted in February 2025. The inspection aimed to review the implementation of security measures and procedures at the port facilities and the broader area surrounding the Port of Thessaloniki, ensuring compliance with European standards.
A three-member team of European inspectors specializing in security for port facilities conducted the detailed assessment, which also included the presence of Greek maritime authorities. The team was joined by the Director and the Head of the relevant section of the Security Management Control Department of the Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy, as well as the Central Port Authority of Thessaloniki. The collaboration highlighted the importance of local and European oversight in maintaining port security and safety standards.
The lead inspector expressed satisfaction with the continued implementation and expansion of best practices by OLTH S.A. on a European level, emphasizing that the efforts resulted in full alignment with European regulations. Such inspections are crucial for ensuring that ports like Thessaloniki can operate safely and efficiently, especially given the rise in global shipping and the need for security measures amidst evolving threats.
