‘Telegram revenge services’ appear again… 20-year-old arrested for spray painting a front door in Dongtan
A 20-year-old woman was arrested in Dongtan, South Korea, for vandalizing an apartment door and distributing defamatory flyers as part of a revenge scheme initiated through Telegram.
In Dongtan, South Korea, a new incident of 'non-face-to-face revenge' has occurred, with a 20-year-old woman apprehended for defacing an apartment entrance and distributing defamatory materials. This case aligns with ongoing crimes in the southern Gyeonggi Province, where individuals are paid anonymously to engage in vandalism and disseminate false information.
The police arrested the suspect, identified as Ms. K, on June 6 for charges including property damage, trespassing, and defamation. She is accused of spray painting a red lacquer on the entrance door of an apartment on the evening of June 4 and throwing food waste at the scene. Additionally, she allegedly spread around thirty flyers containing false information about a resident of the targeted apartment.
Investigations led police to track her movements using surveillance footage, resulting in her capture at her residence in Daegu. Ms. K reportedly stated that she acted under the instruction of someone she met via Telegram, highlighting a growing trend of revenge-service crimes that are organized through this platform. Authorities suspect a network may exist that enables various individuals to carry out such acts of retaliation for private grievances, which raises significant concerns regarding public safety and the dangers of anonymous online interactions.
