20s woman arrested for throwing waste for private revenge after receiving 700,000 won on Telegram
A woman in her twenties has been arrested for throwing waste at a residence as part of a revenge scheme arranged through a Telegram chat, receiving payment for her services.
A twenty-something woman has been arrested in South Korea for allegedly throwing waste at the front door of a residence in a private revenge scheme. On August 8, the Suwon District Court issued an arrest warrant for the woman, whose identity has been withheld, citing concerns of evidence destruction and flight risk. The woman is accused of vandalizing the apartment door with red lacquer and dumping food waste, along with distributing over thirty flyers containing false information about the resident.
Following the incident, which occurred on August 4 in Hwaseong's Dongtan New City, the alleged perpetrator fled but was apprehended in Daegu two days later. The woman admitted to receiving 700,000 won for her actions after being introduced to a Telegram chat room while inquiring about a loan. This indicates the involvement of a broader network facilitating such criminal activities through a digital platform.
The police have connected her to other similar cases involving other individuals who committed comparable offenses in Dongtan and Gunpo, also orchestrated through the same Telegram group, and investigations into the higher-ups behind this operation are ongoing. Other individuals involved in these crimes have already been arrested in late July and early August. The case highlights the emergence of private revenge services facilitated through messaging apps, raising concerns about the implications for public safety and legal accountability.
