G. Žiemelis's company lays off half of its employees
A company owned by G. Žiemelis has announced the layoff of 50 employees due to significant organizational changes.
The employment service was notified on February 25 of impending layoffs affecting half of the employees at a company owned by G. Žiemelis. Out of 98 total employees, 50 are receiving notice of termination, and the layoffs are expected to take place between March 31 and November 30 this year, in accordance with Article 63 of the Lithuanian Labor Code. Various positions will be affected, including dispatchers, shift supervisors, and technical engineers, as well as logistics and resource specialists.
The reason for the layoffs, as stated by the employment service representative Milda Jankauskienė, is due to essential changes in the organizational structure and operational model of the company. A review of the company's operations and an assessment of optimization at the ASG group level led to the decision to discontinue many functions currently performed in Lithuania using in-house resources. These functions are set to be centralized within the ASG group, transferring them to other group entities, which may have implications for job security in the region and signal a shift in the company’s operational strategies.
The restructuring reflects wider trends in the corporate landscape where companies are seeking efficiencies through centralization and optimization. This move could result in not just job losses but also a shift in the work environment, potentially affecting future employment opportunities in the region, as specialized roles may be reduced and centralized functions may lead to job relocations or transformations in job types. The local economy might feel the effects of this significant layoff, with implications for the workforce and related service industries.
