Collisions in Lapland – Rescue Department: "Roads are extremely slippery"

Multiple traffic accidents occurred in Lapland, Finland, due to extremely slippery road conditions, but no injuries were reported.

On Friday morning, several traffic accidents took place across Lapland, Italy, as reported by Yle Uutiset. The incidents included a collision between a car and a heavy vehicle on Highway 83 between Pellon and Rovaniemi, which resulted in one lane being closed to traffic. In Kemijärvi, a later accident involving two passenger cars closed a lane on road 82 between Rovaniemi and Kemijärvi, although that lane has since been reopened and traffic is returning to normal. The Lapland Rescue Department has issued warnings regarding dangerous road conditions, particularly in the areas around Kemijärvi and Rovaniemi, where freezing drizzle has contributed to the icy surfaces. Jukka Huttunen, the duty officer at the Lapland Rescue Department, has highlighted the seriousness of the situation, indicating that the roads are currently in an extremely slippery state. With the conclusion of winter ski holidays in northern Finland, road traffic is expected to increase over the weekend on Lapland's main roads. This surge in activity underscores the importance of heeding safety warnings and taking necessary precautions while driving in the region, especially in light of the existing hazardous conditions that have led to several accidents.
