Grete-Mia Meentalo wins bronze medal in junior world championships in freestyle skiing

Freestyle skier Grete-Mia Meentalo won a bronze medal at the junior world championships in Calgary, Canada.

Freestyle skier Grete-Mia Meentalo achieved a notable success at the junior world championships held in Calgary, Canada, finishing in third place with a score of 80.25 points. This accomplishment marks her first podium finish outside of Europe, a significant milestone in her young career. At just 17 years old, Meentalo has been training under the guidance of her father, Tanel Idaranna, and her recent performances indicate a rising trajectory in her competitive journey.

Previously, Meentalo made her Olympic debut at the Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina, where she competed among 21 athletes in women's freestyle skiing, securing the 17th place. Her entry into the World Cup series began in December 2023, and within a short span, she has participated in six competitions, achieving one 22nd and three 15th-place finishes this season, reflecting her growing experience and skill level in the sport.

The gold medal at the championships was claimed by Australian athlete Indra Brown, who scored 92.00 points in her second run. Remarkably, a score of 88.50 points from her first run would have been sufficient for gold as well. She previously finished fifth in the same discipline at the Milano Cortina Olympic Games, indicating a strong presence in the international freestyle skiing landscape among young athletes.
