To shop more conveniently, PTAC encourages the use of food price comparison tools
The Consumer Rights Protection Centre (PTAC) in Latvia is encouraging the use of food price comparison tools to help consumers save money as food prices continue to rise.
The Consumer Rights Protection Centre (PTAC) of Latvia has emphasized the importance of food price comparison tools in helping consumers shop more wisely, especially during times of rising food prices. The PTAC has assessed the available comparison tools and found them beneficial for consumers, allowing them to compare prices, plan their purchases, and potentially save money while shopping. This comes as food prices continue to climb, making it essential for consumers to maximize their purchasing efficiency.
The development of price comparison tools is part of a broader initiative outlined in the Memorandum on Food Trade, which was signed on May 27, 2025. This memorandum aims to improve the accessibility of basic food products, increase the share of local goods, and strengthen collaboration between retailers and producers. PTAC is tasked with monitoring the implementation of this Memorandum and thus plays a pivotal role in ensuring that these tools are effectively contributing to the intended outcomes for consumers.
PTAC has evaluated several food price comparison tools currently available to consumers, including Cenu depo, Kiwiscan.io, Letapartika.lv, and VisiBukleti.lv. These tools cover a range of retailers, indicating that there may be variations in product assortments available for comparison. Consequently, consumers can benefit from utilizing these resources to make informed decisions about their purchases, aiding them in navigating an increasingly complex retail environment.
