Ukrainians Released from Captivity Needed Urgent Medical Care

Ukrainians who were recently released from Russian captivity require immediate medical attention due to serious health issues.

According to Dmytro Lubinets, Ukraine's Commissioner for Human Rights, several Ukrainians released from Russian captivity on Thursday need urgent medical treatment. Some of these individuals had spent time in captivity since 2022. Upon their return, it was reported that approximately 200 of these individuals were considered heroes, including representatives of Ukraine's armed forces and other military units.

Lubinets mentioned that a special team from the Ukrainian Ombudsman’s office was present to assess the condition of the returning captives. Many of them are experiencing severe medical issues and require immediate care. In particular, some individuals are suffering from significant wounds on their feet, while others are in need of psychological help. The majority of the returnees are described as exhausted and displaying evident signs of distress, highlighting the traumatic experiences they endured while in captivity.

This situation sheds light on the broader issue of the treatment of military personnel in captivity and raises questions about the support and rehabilitation available to those who have faced trauma. Medical and psychological assistance for these individuals is crucial for their recovery, and it emphasizes the ongoing human rights concerns in the context of the conflict. As the war continues, the plight of captured individuals remains a critical humanitarian issue that deserves attention from the international community.
