Dino suspends the lifting of banking and tax secrecy of Lulinha and other targets of the CPI of INSS
Minister Flávio Dino suspended the lifting of bank and tax secrecy for those listed by the CPI of INSS, including the president's son Lulinha.
On Thursday, Minister Flávio Dino of the Brazilian Supreme Federal Court suspended the lifting of banking and tax secrecy for all individuals listed by the Mixed CPI of INSS, notably including Fábio Luís Lula da Silva, commonly known as Lulinha, who is the son of President Lula. This decision extends a previous ruling favorable to entrepreneur Roberta Moreira Luchsinger, made a day earlier. Dino emphasized that his current ruling does not undermine evidence or procedures already undertaken by the Federal Police under the oversight of the Supreme Court.
Dino clarified that the decision to suspend the secrecy did not invalidate previous actions taken during the investigation nor nullify the ability of the CPI to revisit the issue if necessary. The move came after interpretations among legal experts suggested that his ruling stemmed from a perceived illegality in the way the CPI session was conducted, leading to a consensus that all secrecy requests should be suspended simultaneously as a precautionary measure.
This development indicates ongoing tensions between political oversight and judicial proceedings in Brazil, particularly concerning high-profile figures in Lula's administration. It raises questions about the delicate balance between transparency in government dealings and the protection of individual privacy rights during investigations, especially in cases involving politicians or their families.
