Sisters Öberg brought Sweden a double victory, Ermits finished in 17th place
The Öberg sisters achieved a double victory for Sweden in the women's 15 km biathlon race, with Estonia's Regina Ermits finishing in 17th place.
The Öberg sisters, led by Elvira, secured a remarkable double victory for Sweden in the women’s 15 km biathlon event held in Kontiolahti. Elvira Öberg crossed the finish line with an impressive time of 41:46.4, marking her third victory of the season as she completed all shooting rounds without any penalties. Her older sister, Hanna Öberg, followed closely but incurred a penalty in her last shooting round, finishing 41.3 seconds behind her sister. Alongside them, Slovakian biathlete Paulina Batovska Fialkova took third place, while Czech competitor Tereza Vobornikova was also in contention for a podium finish.
In this race, the focus was also on the Estonian competitors, with Regina Ermits being the best-performing female athlete from Estonia, finishing in 17th place, clocking in at 3:21.4 behind the leader. Ermits managed to shoot cleanly in the latter rounds of the competition, which gave her a competitive edge, although she left one target standing in the first round. Other Estonian biathletes had varying results, with Susan Külm marking her return post-Olympics with a 47th place finish, and Tuuli Tomingas and Johanna Talihärm finishing in 85th and 88th places respectively.
