Disaster for the Swedes in the distance race

The Swedish sisters Öberg struggled in their Olympic distance race, with multiple missed shots leading to unfulfilled medal hopes.

The Swedish biathletes, sisters Hanna and Elvira Öberg, encountered significant difficulties during the distance race at the Olympic Games. Hanna Öberg's chances for a medal vanished early as she missed three shots total, starting with two in the prone position and adding another in the standing position. Elvira also had challenges, missing two shots in her race, which put her in a less favorable position as she aimed to bounce back after being excluded from the mixed relay team earlier in the competition.

Other Swedish athletes also faced challenges on the shooting range, with Anna Magnusson and Linn Gestblom both missing two shots each. Gestblom finished as the top Swedish competitor in ninth place, which was a disappointment given the expectations for the team. In a surprising turn, the race saw difficulties for France’s Justine Braisaz-Bouchet, who failed to hit a staggering eight shots, showcasing the tough conditions and pressures of Olympic competition.

The race concluded with France's Julia Simon triumphing, followed closely by teammate Lou Jeanmonnot and Bulgaria's Lora Hristova. This event marked a challenging moment for the Swedish biathlon team, reflecting the unpredictability and competitiveness of the Olympic stage while raising questions on how the team will regroup for their upcoming events.
