VIDEO: residents of Caraguatatuba complain about crater at Martim de Sá beach
Residents of Caraguatatuba are concerned about a growing crater at Martim de Sá beach that poses a danger to locals and tourists alike.
Residents of Caraguatatuba have been voicing their concerns over a crater that has appeared at Martim de Sá beach, a popular destination on the North Coast of São Paulo. According to local reports, this hole on the sandy beach has been enlarging over the past two years, raising worries of potential accidents involving both residents and tourists. One resident, Pedro Barbosa, emphasized the urgency, stating that the issue has been ignored for too long by the local authorities, posing a serious risk to anyone who might fall into the hole.
The crater was reportedly caused by a problem with a stormwater drainage pipe, which has been damaged due to tidal action. The local government confirmed that the drainage system is critical for managing rainwater runoff from Aldino Schiavi Avenue, a main access road to the beach. Despite complaints filed by residents regarding the crater and its looming dangers, there has been little action taken to rectify the situation, leading to increasing frustration and anxiety among the community.
In response to the ongoing issues, the Caraguatatuba City Hall stated that a study is currently being conducted to assess the feasibility of repairs to the drainage points, indicating potential future action. However, the community's ongoing concerns highlight the need for prompt intervention to ensure the safety of residents and visitors at this popular beach destination, lest the situation escalate further before any corrective measures are implemented.
