Police ask to identify man filmed by ATM
A woman was defrauded of 14,000 euros by a man who posed as a utility worker.
On February 17, a woman in Vilnius was tricked into giving away her bank card and lost 14,000 euros. The incident began when she received a phone call from an unidentified individual who falsely claimed that her electricity meters needed to be replaced. Believing this ruse, the woman allowed the individual access to her home, which enabled him to take her bank card.
Later that day, the man used the card to withdraw 14,000 euros from the victim's bank account. The police are now seeking assistance from the public to identify the suspect, who was captured on video by an ATM. The authorities are urging anyone who recognizes the man from the footage to contact them, emphasizing the importance of community engagement in solving such crimes.
This incident highlights the ongoing issue of scams targeting vulnerable individuals through impersonation. The police's appeal for help underlines the significance of vigilance among the public and the need for awareness about such deceptive tactics, especially in urban areas where such crimes may be more prevalent. Authorities are taking the situation seriously and are actively pursuing leads to ensure justice for the victim and prevent future occurrences of similar scams.
