Sokoto, UNICEF conduct pre-polio vaccination campaign in eight LGs
The Sokoto State Government and UNICEF have initiated a pre-polio vaccination campaign across eight local government areas in Sokoto as part of preparations for a larger immunization initiative scheduled for March 2026.
The Sokoto State Government, in collaboration with UNICEF's Sokoto Field Office, has launched a pre-polio vaccination campaign targeting eight local government areas as part of their preparations for a larger immunization drive set for March 2026. This initiative commenced with a Direct Observation of Polio Vaccination designed to strengthen supervision and ensure adherence to immunisation standards by assessing the performance of vaccination teams.
The two-day pre-campaign activity, which started on Thursday and will conclude on Friday, includes outreach sessions where health officials engage with parents and caregivers. During these sessions, the emphasis is placed on the critical need to protect children from the poliovirus, effectively raising awareness about the immunisation programme’s significance. Health officials are fostering dialogue between vaccination teams and the community to drive home the message of responsibility in safeguarding children’s health.
A senior health official has noted that the Direct Observation initiative is not just a measure for gauging effectiveness but also a proactive approach to ensure that all vaccination protocols are strictly followed. This approach aims to maximize the success of the upcoming immunization drive by ensuring all groundwork is effectively laid out, thus highlighting the urgency and importance of preventing polio in the region. The collaborative effort reflects a concerted drive towards eradicating polio and showcases the government's commitment to public health in Sokoto State.
