Merito Partners and Saules Energy Will Invest 25 Million Euros in Battery Systems by Solar Parks
Merito Partners and Saules Energy are investing 25 million euros in battery systems for eight solar power plants in Latvia, which will enhance energy independence and sustainability.
Merito Partners and Saules Energy have announced a significant investment of 25 million euros in battery systems integrated with eight solar power plants across Latvia. This initiative is supported by 13 million euros in financing from Signet Bank and contributions from over 80 private and institutional investors in Latvia. The projects, set to be developed from 2023 to 2024, are located in various municipalities including Zilupē, Brenguļi, Inčukalns, and others, with a total capacity of 71.5 megawatts (MW).
The solar power plants are strategically designed to connect with the local distribution infrastructure, ensuring that electricity generation occurs close to where it is consumed, benefiting local residents and businesses. As of now, these eight solar power plants are supplying electricity to approximately 35,000 households in Latvia. This development is seen as a crucial step towards strengthening Latvia's energy independence and achieving sustainability goals, as stated by Merito Partners.
Additionally, the project aims to modernize the solar power plants by implementing Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), which will improve the efficiency and reliability of energy production. The integration of these systems is expected to further enhance the sustainability of energy sources in Latvia, illustrating the growing importance of renewable energy initiatives in the country’s efforts to meet its energy demands responsibly and sustainably.
