Estonia organizes flights from war zone - Finland has over 5 times the cost
Estonia is facilitating repatriation flights for its citizens from the Middle East at significantly lower costs compared to Finland's arrangements.
The Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is arranging flights for its citizens to return from the Middle East, notably at a lower cost than Finland. On Thursday, 180 Estonian nationals are set to return home on the first special flight organized by the ministry from Oman. A subsequent flight is already being planned for Friday, as reported by ERR, Estonia's public broadcasting company. The cost for the flight is set at 400 euros, plus an additional 50 euro transportation fee to avoid confusion and delays. The government subsidizes approximately 1,000 euros per passenger for these flights.
In contrast, the cost of Finland's evacuation flight is around 2,300 euros per passenger, highlighting the disparity in government support and logistics between the two countries. During the onset of attacks in Iran, there were about 3,000 Estonian citizens in the region, according to ERR. Hille Hanso, an expert on the Middle East, warned that there is now a highly limited timeframe for evacuations, emphasizing that actions must be taken swiftly to ensure the safety of those remaining in the area.
