Igoumenitsa Port: 1.5 MW Photovoltaic Park
The Port Authority of Igoumenitsa is taking a decisive step towards sustainable development and energy autonomy with the installation of a 1.5 MW photovoltaic park.
The Port Authority of Igoumenitsa (O.L.I.G.) has initiated a significant move towards sustainable development and energy independence through the installation of a 1.5 MW photovoltaic park, which is the centerpiece of its strategy to transition to a more modern and 'green' port. This solar power facility, installed on the port's coverings, harnesses clean solar energy to meet all of the port's energy needs, substantially reducing reliance on conventional energy sources and limiting COâ‚‚ emissions by at least 480 tons annually.
With an annual production of green electricity exceeding 2,000,000 kWh, the Igoumenitsa port enhances its environmental performance and ensures more sustainable and efficient operations. The investment for the photovoltaic park by O.L.I.G. is not an isolated effort but is part of a broader initiative aimed at emphasizing sustainability and energy resilience in the region.
Such initiatives are essential as they not only contribute to the local economy by promoting green energy but also support global efforts to mitigate climate change and reduce emissions. By advancing towards a greener infrastructure, the Port of Igoumenitsa is setting a benchmark for other ports in Greece and beyond to follow suit in environmentally conscious practices.
