Igoumenitsa Port plans three OPS installations via HEDNO

The port of Igoumenitsa is set to implement a significant project involving the installation of three Onshore Power Supply systems to enhance energy efficiency and environmental sustainability in maritime transport.

The Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator (HEDNO) has signed a contract to commence a vital project aimed at modernizing the energy infrastructure at Igoumenitsa Port in Greece. This initiative will involve the study, procurement, installation, testing, and commissioning of three passenger/ro-ferry ship power supply systems from Onshore Power Supply (OPS) sources, which is a crucial step towards supporting the energy transition in maritime transport. The project reflects the growing emphasis on sustainable practices in the shipping industry, particularly in light of global climate goals.

Scheduled for completion within the next 18 months, the project includes the construction of two 3 MVA power stations and one 0.5 MVA power station. The integration of these systems is expected to drastically reduce environmental pollution by enabling E/C-O/C vessels to switch off their auxiliary engines when docked and utilize power from the local electricity grid.
