TODAY LIVE | Biathletes recovering from the Olympics start in Kontiolahti

A live broadcast of the women’s 15 km individual event in biathlon from Kontiolahti is set to kick off today, featuring four Estonian athletes post-Olympics.

Today at 18:00, ETV2 and the ERR sports portal will broadcast the women's 15 km individual event from Kontiolahti, marking the first competition for biathletes following the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics. A total of 96 women will compete, among them four Estonian athletes: Susan Külm, Regina Ermits, Tuuli Tomingas, and Johanna Talihärm, each set to showcase their skills after the prestigious Olympic event.

The previous full-length individual event was held in early December in Östersund, where notable performances were seen, including podium finishes from Dorothea Wierer, Sonja Leinamo, and Camille Bened. During the Winter Olympics, the French athletes Julia Simon and Lou Jeanmonnot secured a one-two finish in this event, while Bulgaria's Lora Hristova claimed the bronze medal. In that competition, the top Estonian was Susan Külm, who managed to place 28th despite incurring a penalty minute.

This event in Kontiolahti not only serves as a platform for the athletes to gauge their performance after the Olympic break but also highlights the resurgence of competitive spirit in biathlon as the season progresses. The enthusiasm surrounding the broadcast underlines the importance of this sport in Estonia and the support for its athletes as they embark on a new chapter in their competitive careers, particularly after their experiences at the Olympics.
