Mitsubishi UFJ Bank announced the appointment of Masashi Onodera as the new deputy head for the Chubu region, effective April 1. This decision retains the longstanding tradition of having leadership in this position come from Tokai Bank, with Onodera set to be the seventh consecutive appointee from that institution. He succeeds Ichiro Takahara, who is stepping out of the deputy head role to become a consultant after a tenure that included fostering regional banking operations.

Onodera, a graduate of the University of Tokyo, joined Tokai Bank (now part of Mitsubishi UFJ Bank) in 1991. His career has spanned various international posts across Europe and Asia, along with leading the transaction banking department within the bank's payment business headquarters. Since April 2022, Onodera has served as an executive officer, overseeing sales operations in the Chubu area, highlighting his deep-rooted connection to the regional banking sector.

The role of the deputy head of Chubu encompasses the management of significant prefectures including Aichi, Gifu, Mie, and Shizuoka. Given the deep historical ties between Mitsubishi UFJ Bank and Tokai Bank, Onodera's appointment not only maintains this lineage but also signals the bank's commitment to regional expertise and continuity in leadership, particularly as the banking sector faces an evolving economic landscape.
