Revelation about the future of the rally championship team
M-Sport intends to continue competing in the World Rally Championship next season with the Ford Fiesta Rally2 despite new technical regulations.
M-Sport, the rally team focusing on Ford vehicles, has announced its plans to continue participating in the World Rally Championship (WRC) for the upcoming season. According to Richard Millener, a leading figure at M-Sport, the team will not be creating a new vehicle in accordance with the forthcoming WRC27 regulations. Instead, they plan to compete in the top category using the Ford Fiesta Rally2, which can participate as a developed version under the new rules that come into effect next year.
The new regulations will significantly change the technical specifications for cars in the main competition category. Millener has indicated that M-Sport is not in a position to introduce a car that fully complies with the WRC27 rules until at least 2028. He emphasized the need to first evaluate the plans of the new promoter of the championship before making any decisions about their vehicle development moving forward. Currently, it is only known that Toyota and the private team Project Rally One are developing a completely new car that adheres to the WRC27 standards for the next season.
This announcement reflects strategic considerations for M-Sport, as they aim to remain competitive in the WRC despite the changing regulations. The team's focus on the Fiesta Rally2 highlights their commitment to leveraging existing capabilities while navigating the shifting landscape of rally car design and competition standards in the coming years.
