At this price, electricity contracts are available now
Prices for fixed-term electricity contracts in Finland have remained stable since early March, with various energy providers offering competitive rates for apartment and detached house residents.
In Finland, the prices for fixed-term electricity contracts have remained largely unchanged since the beginning of March, stabilizing at around 10 cents per kilowatt hour for apartment buildings. According to the Energy Authority's electricity price comparison service, the cheapest fixed-term contracts for apartment residents are available from Cheap Energy and Keravan Energia. For detached houses that rely on electric heating, Keravan Energia also offers the most favorable rates, with an estimated average price ranging from 7.63 to 7.80 cents per kilowatt hour.
As many Finns switched from variable market electricity contracts to fixed-term ones amid cold weather during the early months of the year, the stability of fixed contracts has become appealing. A fixed-term electricity contract means that the monthly fee and the electricity price remain constant throughout the contract period. This predictability has been critical, particularly when variable market electricity prices reached over 80 cents at times, making fixed options a more affordable choice amidst fluctuating market conditions.
Comparisons between market electricity prices and fixed contracts will provide a clearer picture only at the end of the year, when comprehensive data on energy costs will be available. This will allow consumers to assess the overall efficiency and cost-effectiveness of their energy choices for the entire year. Meanwhile, with many households adapting to the winter energy needs, understanding these pricing structures will be crucial for financial planning and managing energy budgets effectively during extreme weather conditions.
