Full list of people who can now get a third off train fares

Seven additional groups now qualify for a Disabled Person's Railcard in the UK, allowing them to receive a one-third discount on train fares.

The Disabled Person's Railcard in the UK has been expanded to include seven new categories of individuals who can now receive a one-third discount on train fares. This discount card, which costs £20 for one year or £54 for three years, is aimed at improving accessibility for those with disabilities. Previously, eligibility was limited to individuals claiming specific benefits or with defined medical conditions, but from March 1, the criteria have been broadened significantly.

The new categories of eligibility now encompass a wider range of both visible and non-visible disabilities. Among those who now qualify are individuals with a blue badge and those holding a disabled person's bus pass in England, Scotland, and Wales. This move is a part of a broader initiative to make rail travel more inclusive and accessible, thereby removing some barriers faced by disabled individuals when it comes to public transport.

By expanding the Disabled Person's Railcard scheme, the UK government is not only supporting individuals with disabilities but also promoting greater independence and travel options for vulnerable groups. This initiative reflects a growing recognition of the importance of accessibility in public transport and aims to foster an environment where everyone can enjoy the benefits of rail travel without the added financial burden, thereby enhancing mobility across the country.
