Nesterov and Tshurakov missed the free skate at the junior world championships, the leader is Japanese Nakata
Estonian figure skaters Ilja Nesterov and Vladislav Tshurakov did not qualify for the free skate at the Junior World Championships held in Tallinn.
The Junior World Championships in figure skating commenced on Wednesday in Tallinn at the Tondiraba Ice Hall, featuring Estonian skaters Ilja Nesterov and Vladislav Tšurakov in the men's singles event. Nesterov, a 14-year-old competing in a major championship for the first time, performed first among the competitors but faced some challenges, including errors on several jumps and a spin, resulting in a score of 47.90 points, placing him in 40th position among 43 participants. Nesterov expressed his enjoyment of debuting in front of a home crowd but acknowledged he had wished for a better performance.
Tšurakov competed later in the second warm-up group and delivered an expressive performance. However, he failed to secure the necessary points for qualification into the free skate due to a major error on a planned triple Rittberger jump, which he only managed as a single, and he also incurred a penalty for exceeding the time limit. After his performance, Tšurakov commented that he felt the support and presence of his family and supporters, but recognized the areas where he needed improvement.
With both skaters unable to move forward in the competition, attention now turns to the lead of the event, where Japanese skater Nakata stands out. This outcome may be significant for the Estonian figure skating community as it highlights the need for further development and support for young talents in the sport, especially in international competitions.
