Estonian Ice Dancers Hope to Advance to Free Dance at Home World Championships
Estonian ice dancers Ksenia Sipunova and Miron Korjagin aim to qualify for the free dance segment at the upcoming Junior World Championships in Tallinn.
Ksenia Sipunova and Miron Korjagin, the Estonian ice dance pair, are set to represent their country at the Junior World Championships in Tallinn. This competition marks their third appearance at the event, having previously finished 31st and 23rd in the past two years. Their goal for this year is to advance from the rhythm dance into the free dance segment, with only the top 20 out of 30 pairs making the cut for the free dance.
Sipunova expressed her hopes to experience the atmosphere of the competition and to achieve a top 15 finish, which she described as a dream and a hopeful outcome. The pair has been training together since February 2022, after both attempted to pursue individual skating careers, with Korjagin briefly exploring football before focusing on ice dancing. Their progress is evident as Sipunova noted their improvement since their initial performances, indicating that they no longer resemble two individual skaters but rather a cohesive dance team.
As they prepare for this significant event on home ice, the duo's aspirations reflect not only their individual dedication but also contribute to Estonia's growing presence in the world of ice dancing. Success in this championship could pave the way for future opportunities in their careers and inspire other athletes in Estonia to pursue competitive figure skating.
