At the Junior World Figure Skating Championships taking place in Tallinn, Estonia, Vladislav Churakov and Ilya Nesterov competed in the men's short program, where Churakov placed 31st and Nesterov 40th. Both skaters did not qualify for the free skate program, which was a disappointment for their team, as they had hoped for higher placements. Churakov earned a score of 54.47 points, slightly lower than his seasonal best, while Nesterov scored 47.90 points, expressing that he didn't perform at his best this time.
Churakov reflected on his performance with mixed feelings, stating that while it was a valuable experience, not everything went according to his plan. He highlighted the importance of staying focused before the performance rather than dwelling on mistakes afterward. Nesterov, in his first appearance at such a significant competition, acknowledged that his routine could have been executed better but felt optimistic about future events, believing that he has room for improvement in the years to come.
The competition saw German skater Leon Rojkov secure the last qualifying spot for the free skate with a score of 60.68 points, while Japanese skater Rio Nakata took the lead with a score of 89 points. This event marks an important step in the young athletes' careers as they seek to establish themselves on the international figure skating stage and improve their performances in subsequent competitions.
