Cattle: limited supply and price increases in the Cañuelas Agricultural and Livestock Market
The Cañuelas Agricultural and Livestock Market reported a limited cattle supply, resulting in significant price increases for livestock.
On Wednesday, the Cañuelas Agricultural and Livestock Market operated with the arrival of 4,007 animals unloaded from 109 trucks. With a considered limited supply, local abattoir and industry operators engaged in competitive bidding to secure livestock, especially for lighter cattle, leading to increased prices. The General Index rose by 4.02%, moving from $3,760.684 to $3,911.972, while the Beef Index increased by 4.82%, from $4,503.682 to $4,720.935.
The sales included 591 steers, accounting for 14.79% of the total sold and fetching noteworthy prices: $4,950 for a batch of 478 kg, $4,900 for weights of 468, 510, and 545 kg, and $4,800 for 441 kg. For the higher quality cows, prices reached $4,600 for a 431 kg batch, $4,300 for a 503 kg lot, and $3,500 for weights of 530 and 553 kg. The trading session highlighted the strong competition among buyers, which is indicative of the current demand in the market. This price increase reflects broader trends in agricultural markets affected by supply constraints and increased demand.
