Cattle: Increases in the Cañuelas Livestock Market

This week's cattle trading at the Cañuelas Livestock Market saw an increase in prices due to limited supply and competitive buying.

This Wednesday marked the beginning of the weekly operations at the Cañuelas Livestock Market (MAG) with the entry of 7,159 animals, unloaded from 197 trucks. Due to the limited supply and disruption caused by the recent carnival holidays, local operators and industries engaged in intense competition to secure livestock, which led to price increases across all exposed categories. The General Index rose by 2.89% since last Friday, moving from 3,859.13 to 3,970.853 pesos, while the Steer Index increased by 1.68%, changing from 4,483.605 to 4,559.038 pesos per kilogram.

The steers, totaling 1,440 heads, made up 20.19% of all sales, with notable recorded prices of $4,970 for 480 kg; $4,940 for 442 kg; and $4,870 for steers weighing 491 and 508 kg. Additionally, the best-quality cows fetched $4,600 for those weighing 440 and 454 kg, $3,700 for 486 kg, and $3,600 for 598 kg. The current upward trend in prices highlights the growing demand and potential profitability in the cattle sector, which is crucial for the Argentinian economy, given the country's reliance on livestock production as a significant agricultural output.

Overall, the market's activity reflects the dynamics of supply and demand, especially in the context of recent holidays affecting livestock availability. This competitive environment could lead to further adjustments in prices and market strategies among producers and buyers in the agriculture and livestock industry, shaping the landscape for future cattle transactions in Argentina.
