A report from the firefighters indicates that a livestock-carrying ship that caught fire in São Sebastião, Brazil, did not suffer structural damage.
A recent report released by the firefighters revealed that the North Star 1, a livestock-carrying ship that caught fire at the Port of São Sebastião in São Paulo's North Shore, did not sustain any structural damage. The fire, which started around 9:15 PM on Tuesday, engulfed the third floor of the vessel before spreading to the fourth floor, where hay and feed were stored for the approximately 2,600 animals on board. Fortunately, the animals remained unharmed as they were located on an upper deck, away from the flames.
Firefighting efforts involved 19 firefighters and six fire trucks. The blaze consumed approximately 30 tons of hay, but the quick action of the firefighting teams ensured that the fire was contained and ultimately extinguished. The Companhia Docas de São Sebastião (CDSS) confirmed that the animals were safely evacuated and reports no casualties or injuries related to the incident.
The implications of this incident extend beyond immediate safety concerns, highlighting the importance of maritime safety protocols when transporting livestock. The efficient management of the situation by the fire department serves as a reassuring factor for the local community and shipping industry stakeholders, affirming that necessary measures were in place to prevent potential disasters at the port.
