Body of elderly woman missing for four days found in forest area of Pastos Bons
The body of 80-year-old Cacilda Francisca da Cruz, missing for four days, was discovered in a forested area in Pastos Bons, Brazil.
The body of Cacilda Francisca da Cruz, an 80-year-old woman, was found on Tuesday, October 3, in a forest area located approximately 550 kilometers from São Luís in Pastos Bons. She had been missing for four days, having last been seen leaving home around midnight on Friday, September 27. The discovery of her body highlights the tragic implications of elderly individuals with cognitive impairments like Alzheimer’s, particularly in rural or forested areas where they may become lost.
According to the Civil Police, the body was located about one and a half kilometers from her residence. Investigations suggest that due to her Alzheimer's condition, Cacilda may have wandered off into the forest and suffered an accident unbeknownst to her family. This unfortunate case raises awareness about the vulnerabilities faced by elderly individuals with dementia, as they often require close monitoring to ensure their safety.
As her body has been sent to the Legal Medical Institute for examination to determine the cause of death, community concerns about the safety of vulnerable residents may grow. It underscores the need for families to use precautionary measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future, especially in regions where geographical isolation is a concern.
