Woman found dead inside house in Mendes
A 64-year-old woman was discovered dead in her home in Mendes, Brazil, after being out of contact for approximately 15 days.
On Monday afternoon, a 64-year-old woman was found dead in her house in Mendes, Rio de Janeiro. The discovery was made after two of her relatives reported that they had not been able to contact her for about 15 days. Upon arriving at the residence, law enforcement officers were struck by a strong odor emanating from inside, leading them to to call the police for assistance.
The Military Police reported that the door to the home was closed but not locked, which allowed the officers access. Inside, they discovered the body in an advanced state of decomposition, but no signs of violence or forced entry were evident. This suggests that the circumstances surrounding her death may not involve foul play, but the investigation is ongoing to determine the cause.
A forensic team arrived at the scene to gather information relevant to the investigation, and following this, the body was transported by firefighters to the Medical Legal Institute in Volta Redonda. The police have classified the case as a 'finding of a corpse' and the local police department in Mendes has initiated an investigation to clarify the cause of the woman's death, indicating that further examinations and inquiries will take place as the case develops.
