Spring has arrived in Stockholm

Spring has officially arrived in Stockholm with temperatures consistently above freezing, which has led to meteorological spring being declared in much of Sweden.

Spring has officially arrived in Stockholm as a high-pressure system established itself over southern Sweden, bringing warm weather and temperatures reaching up to ten degrees Celsius in some areas. The meteorological spring, defined by the average daily temperature being above zero degrees for seven consecutive days, is now acknowledged in Götaland and eastern Svealand, according to meteorologist Anna Belking from SMHI. This change in season is significant as it marks a shift from the cold winter months into the more temperate spring period.

As the warm weather sets in, however, it brings with it some concerns, particularly regarding fire hazards. SMHI has issued warnings for grass fires in large parts of Götaland and eastern Svealand due to the dry grass left in the wake of melting snow. With the combination of dry conditions and windy weather, the risk of fires spreading has heightened. Anna Belking emphasizes that the leftover dry grass is extremely flammable, which can pose a significant threat in the current weather conditions.

The warnings for grass fires will remain in effect through Thursday for certain regions in Götaland. As winter transitions to spring, it is crucial for residents to stay informed about these warnings, as the changing climate patterns may lead to increased fire risks alongside the anticipated warmer temperatures.
