More than 90% of Vacancies Filled in the Rīga Municipal Police

The Rīga Municipal Police has filled 91% of its vacancies according to recent information shared with the Rīga City Council's Committee on Safety, Order, and Corruption Prevention.

The Rīga Municipal Police (RPP) has reported that it has filled 91% of its vacancies as of today during a meeting of the Rīga City Council's Committee on Safety, Order, and Corruption Prevention. This marks an increase from 89% of vacancies filled last year and 85% in 2023. Out of a total of 854 positions within the RPP this year, 725 have been successfully filled, indicating a significant improvement in staffing levels compared to previous years. However, the increase in the filled positions might not solely be attributed to the hiring of new employees but also to the elimination of existing vacancies.

Of the total number of RPP employees, 57.2% are men and 42.8% are women. To retain staff, the RPP has implemented internal regulations for the "Employee Professional Skills Assessment and Career Path" and has been regularly publishing job advertisements. Furthermore, from January 1, 2025, police officers' salaries will see an average increase of 11%. This ongoing salary enhancement, which has already been initiated in January of this year, raises the salaries of police officers from an average of €1,208 to €1,406, indicating a clear commitment to improving working conditions within the police force.

These developments come in response to the ongoing challenges faced by the RPP in maintaining adequate staffing levels and ensuring the overall effectiveness of the police force. The proactive measures taken by the RPP to fill vacancies and increase salaries reflect a broader trend of addressing personnel shortages within law enforcement agencies in Latvia, which could have significant implications for public safety and crime prevention in the region.
