Increase in the Salary of Riga Municipal Police Officers
In February, all 803 employees of the Riga Municipal Police received a new salary increase averaging 10.2% or 165 euros.
In a recent update, it was reported by the Deputy Mayor of Riga, Edvards Ratnieks, that all 803 employees of the Riga Municipal Police saw an average salary increase of 10.2% or 165 euros as of February. This adjustment comes as part of a broader budget decision made by the Riga City Council, which approved an allocation of two million euros for salary increases for municipal police officers for the fiscal year 2026. The increase will vary based on job categories, notably benefiting those with lower salaries, such as the order officers.
The changes involve a minimum salary increase of 8%, translating to an additional 123 euros on the monthly gross salary. On the other end, the most significant raise could reach as much as 231 euros, representing a rise from 224 euros per month. The new salary model aims to provide greater increments specifically to order officers, with averages projected between 16-17%, while inspectors and senior positions will see smaller increases of around 8-10%.
This revision in the remuneration structure follows the city's initiative to align the salaries of municipal police workers with those of the National Police, highlighting an important step towards ensuring competitive and fair compensation within law enforcement agencies. Notably, the highest-earning officers within the municipal police will not be subject to these salary increases, focusing financial support on those at the lower end of the pay scale.
