Captaincy investigates causes of accident between small vessels in Santarém

The Fluvial Captaincy of Santarém has initiated an investigation into an accident involving two small boats on the Tapajós River, which resulted in one person being hospitalized.

On the afternoon of Tuesday, the Fluvial Captaincy of Santarém in western Pará, Brazil, reported an incident involving a collision between a wooden bajara (a type of motor canoe) and a speedboat near the ATEM Terminal. Following the accident, the Mobile Emergency Service (Samu) was called to provide immediate assistance to those onboard both vessels.

The investigation, overseen by the Fluvial Captaincy, aims to determine the circumstances leading to the collision. Reports indicate that only one individual, identified as 38-year-old Jadeilson Pereira de Jesus, sustained injuries in the incident, specifically severe back pain, prompting his transport to the Municipal Emergency Room for further evaluation and treatment.

This incident underscores the importance of safety measures on waterways, particularly in crowded areas such as the Tapajós River, which is frequently used for both commercial and recreational navigation. The results of the ongoing investigation will be crucial in addressing any regulatory or safety gaps that may have contributed to the accident, ensuring the protection of individuals traveling on these vessels in the future.
